August 7 was a great date for St. Andrew's annual golf tournament, hot but sunny, and everyone in great spirits. There were over 70 players who took part in both the golf and the dinner afterwards in the church hall. Raising even more funds, the silent auction that took place after the dinner was also a great success. The united efforts of our many volunteers brought about these wonderful results for our local charities.
Archdeacon Nancy's final weeks in the northern Quebec Cree community of Mistissini have been very full. As well as being daily with the congregation in Mistissini, she has officiated at a funeral and baptisms in the neighbouring community of Waswanipi. She has been present for an early morning fishing derby and been on the dock for the arrival of participants in a weeks' long canoe trip, and watched the fitness challenge from her front porch. Unique opportunities. The beautiful photos both in the town, on her travels, and on her kayaking trips around Lake Mistissini document her experiences.
Photos of a fishing derby, a funeral, a baptism, and beautiful scenery along the Chibougamau River. The funeral and the baptisms were both held in the smaller town of Waswanipi. Photos were taken in the towns of Mistissini, Waswanipi and of the route in between. Other photos of the area around the town of Mistissini or around the lake were taken by Nancy as she kayaked on her day off.
St. Andrew's is the centre of the action in Wellington on July 1. Our lawn is the perfect place from which to watch the parade and, afterwards, partake in Lunch on the Lawn and browse items from the What-Not Shop.
Archdeacon Nancy is spending the month of July in northern Quebec, in the diocese of Moosonee. She will be the visiting priest at St. John the Evangelist in Mistissini, QC, a Cree community. The map shows as well the community of Waswanipi, where she will travel to baptize new Christians. Other photos are of her two-day trip from Prince Edward County to Mistissini with her co-pilot Farley. They overnighted in an old monastery, Maison Zachariah, near Lac St. Jean.
Monthly Community Suppers are held in the St. Andrew's church hall on the third Wednesday of the month. Organized by Marilyn Root, in the red apron, a different chef from the County takes charge of the menu each month. These suppers are free but donations are gladly accepted as all proceeds go to local charities. Each dinner, September to June, is well attended and a wonderful social opportunity for the community.
Pancake Tuesday saw St. Andrew's enjoying a traditional pancake and sausage dinner in the church hall. Under the watchful eye of Marlene C., Archdeacon Nancy and other volunteers from our church made visitors welcome. On a dark and rainy evening, it was a warm and happy event.
Every February, the men of St. Andrew's take up the challenge of preparing the most delicious chili for the monthly potluck. After a blind tasting, the winner is declared and gets to take home the Blue Bowl. The following year, the contenders try again. This year's winner was Ray D, wearing a matching blue t-shirt.
With these photos, Archdeacon Nancy Northgrave, demonstrates her artistic side with some great outdoor pictures!
