On Sunday, November 2, St. Andrew’s had the great pleasure of welcoming the former primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, Archbishop Fred Hiltz. He officiated, gave the homily and celebrated the Eucharist with us. What a wonderful morning it was, filled with joy and with packed pews as so many of our friends from St. Phillip’s joined us.

Sunday was the day after Game 7, when the Blue Jays lost to the Dodgers, and we were all a little bit in mourning. The sermon was very timely, as the Archbishop opened with a wonderful description of the way in which the fans responded to each and every play of their favourite team. He likened it to our Christian journey, as we seek to navigate the joys and sorrows and pitfalls of life, while a crowd of witnesses watches over us, sometimes quietly but intensely in prayer, sometimes cheering us on. A very fitting analogy for last Sunday morning.

A potluck meal after the service gave us another opportunity to meet with the Archbishop and enjoy the company of visitors and old friends. Thank you, Archdeacon Nancy, for inviting the former primate to visit with us here in Wellington at our little church.
